Keep in mind things have changed since this was written. The Gluster port to use would no longer be 6996. Probably more like 24010 or something.

With 3.1.x you don't configure vol files anymore:

brick1.my.domain# gluster peer probe brick2.my.domain
brick2.my.domain# gluster peer probe brick1.my.domain # This is to ensure that brick1 is being referenced by name
brick1.my.domain# gluster volume create web_sites replica 2 brick1.my.domain:/gfs/web/sites/export brick2.my.domain:/gfs/web/sites/export

We're also trying to get Gluster running in ec2 for a project as well, but having awful problems with zip/unzip performance. I was wondering if you have seen anything like this? We've talked to Gluster support, but they appear to be washing their hands of it now....

Hello, Ian.
This nagios script will require to have the gluster client component installed on the Nagios server. Is that correct?

Thanks Ian for the post. I have been using glusterFS on ec2 for a while. It worked great for us except that it leaked memory and reached the RAM limit and started swapping. Every 2-3 days i had to kill and restart it. I used gluster 2.0.2. I had no idea gluster current version reached 3.0. Just upgraded our servers. Things look smooth but need to monitor over the next 2-3 days.

Interesting stuff - thanks for posting this article. I especially appreciated the descriptions and reasoning behind your selection of translators - if only the official documentation were so succinct. :)

Thanks for the interesting articles.
"performance/stat-prefetch" may be useful depending on what your apache is serving. If you are serving PHP pages which read the contents of folders (e.g wordpress/phpbb) then it could make a big difference. However, I've had big problems with "performance/stat-prefetch" and apache and have filed a bug here;
http://bugs.gluster.com/cgi-bin/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=762
Once those problems are cleared up in a future release it may be worth taking another look at performance/stat-prefetch

Glusterfs can do most things it seems :-) so you shouldn't have a problem....

What do you mean by "B to A cross replication"?
